Dog helps owners escape fire
Two occupants of a Livermore residence escaped a fire that almost completely destroyed their house when they were awoken by their barking dog Saturday morning, according to Jim Purchio, assistant chief of the Alameda County Fire Department.
The accidental fire began in an enclosed patio toward the rear of the ranch-style house at 2546 Greenville Road. The fire was reported at 1:32 a.m. and was knocked down around 1:45 a.m.
Fire departments from Livermore, Pleasanton, Alameda County and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory responded to the mutual aid fire, Purchio said.
According to Purchio, the fire may have been caused by an electrical problem, although the exact cause has not been determined. The fire is not under investigation as it was deemed to be an accident.
No one was injured in the fire. The two residents were displaced and are staying either with relatives or in a trailer they own, Purchio said.
