Dog and cat household pet limits nearing
City councilors in Westfield have tentatively approved a new companion animal ordinance that would limit the allowable number of dogs and cats a homeowner could have. It also regulates residential and commercial kennels and vaccination and licensing requirements.
A public hearing on an initial version of the amended ordinance sparked complaints from people on both sides of the fence - animal lovers with pets in their homes and neighbors aggrieved by next-door pets.
The new rule allows for no more than six animals, with no more than three dogs over the age of three months or four cats over the age of six months.
